Birthday Boy Party Mix

Wow kids. The Flu is in full effect and in the immortal words of..hmm was Cool Moe D…I’m “illin” and not in a good way. Be that as it may, the show must go on. There’s no stopping the “Birthday Party” in fact, as I type this I am loading up on antibiotics, grapefruit and Popeyes fried chicken. Hey, if a healthy dose of Popeye’s doesn’t kill and flush this damned bug from my system, nuthin will.

Anywho, about a week ago..long before this nasty little bug decided to take up residence in my innards, skillfully bypassing my immune system with the prowess of Kevin Mitnick, morphing, mutating and evolving to thrive off of whatever meds I tried to take (this bug is especially fond of aspirin) and making mincemeat of all my vital functions I was appointed “musical supervisor” of firstbourne’s party.

Oh that’ll be easy, I figured. No rush. I got this. Well, needless to say, I didn’t. The flu took hold, my brain turned to mush and about two days out from the party I realized I had no earthly idea what tunes my soon to be eight-year-old son wanted on his party CD.

It was one of those frightful moments in parenthood where you discover your little one isn’t so little any more. I’d asked my son at one point last week if he had any ideas what music he wanted. It seems like last time I’d checked the Bob the Builder Theme and Crocdile Rock were all-time favs. I asked him about these tunes and he said, “No way Dad, those are kid songs” It was with a completely straight face that I fought the urge to say, “But, but, you’re still a kid dammit.”

And then came the next frightful moment of parenthood - the moment where you realize the child you (well your wife) brought into the world; the child whose been goin to school, learning to read; the one you’ve been eating breakfast n lunch with every day for years…..that this child, this being is developing likes and tastes of his own…and its disconcerting when you ask yourself, “well what music does he like?” and no answer comes….

The following playlist is one of the most eclectic you’ll ever see. The boy actually did request a couple Mardi Gras songs; a hazard I guess of having a birthday so close to Super Bowl and Mardi Gras. I know he likes Kiss; along with the Mission Impossible Theme and the Imperial March…but I’m getting ahead of myself here.

The list shall speak for itself….

Holy crap. That’s an eight year old’s list?
BTW, I’m listening to Mission Impossible remix after seeing that list.
    Feel better soon!
